Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Granite Pointe for the 2013-2014 school year! We will continue to implement strong instructional practices to ensure that your child is successful: additional tutoring during the day and in afterschool, an emphasis on directed instruction in the classroom, and teacher collaboration days that allow teachers to review student assessments to guide instruction. This year we are also adding a positive behavior intervention program which we will share at our Back to School nights.
To help ease some anxiety, we would like to invite you to our “Meet and Greet the Teacher” on Friday August 16th from 11-12pm.
The first days of school are very important. Please watch for the Greenfield Guide for Students and pink emergency cards to come home. Make sure that all forms are filled out completely and returned. Anyone picking up your child must be listed on the emergency card, have a photo ID, and must enter through the office. As per our district’s policy, we will not change dismissal plans for your child by phone request. If there is a change in how your child will be getting home, please send a signed note with your child that day, fax us a signed
request, or send someone on your emergency card to pick them up.
The instructional day begins at 8:30. It’s important that your child is here on time and ready to learn. If they arrive in their classrooms after 8:30 AM, they will be marked late by the classroom teacher. If your child arrives at 9 AM or after 9 AM, he/she will have to come to the office and will be marked tardy. If your child is late or tardy due to a doctor’s appointment, please bring a note from the doctor’s office so the late or tardy can be excused. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask your teacher or call the office.
We encourage parent involvement here at Granite Pointe. It’s vital, however, that all visitors sign in through the office. Also, 8:00 – 8:30 AM is a time for teachers to prepare for the day, attend meetings, and/or supervise students. If you would like to meet with a teacher before or after school, leave a message for the teacher so he/she can set a time that will work for both of you.
In addition, it’s important that students wear appropriate clothing for school. Clothing, haircuts, and jewelry should not be disruptive within the school setting. Students may not wear strapless shoes, spaghetti string tops, tops that expose the midriff, or hats. These rules apply all year. Please feel free to call us if you have any questions.
Information regarding our Back to School night will be sent home once the school year begins. Please plan to attend this evening and learn more about your child’s class, our positive behavior support system, and Granite Pointe Elementary.
We continue to strive to provide a learning environment that will foster student growth and success. We look forward to working with you to achieve this goal.
